 Climate and Weather

Seattle's mild temperatures enable year-round outdoor activities. Average yearly rainfall in Seattle is 36.2 inches (92 cm), compared to 19.5 inches (50 cm) in San Francisco, 34.5 (88 cm) in Chicago, 39 inches (99 cm) in Washington, D.C. and 40.3 inches (102 cm) in New York City.

See what the seasons are like:

SPRING Spring in Seattle is balmy and mild. Expect abundant blooms on flowering trees and shrubs.

SUMMER Seattle's summer days bring temperatures of 70-90 degrees fahrenheit. Sweaters and lightweight jackets help visitors shield from winds on the open areas of ferries and other watercraft.

FALL Autumn is lovely with hues ranging from yellow, orange, red and brown as deciduous leaves take their time to turn color and fall. Area farms offer fresh produce and corn mazes to tour.

WINTER Seattle typically has fewer than three days of snow. And while many people associate Seattle with rain, it's really cloud cover without rain that prompts many visitors and locals to drink high quantities of caffeinated drinks.
