San Juan Islands, Seattle's secret getaway spot
Captains Log : Today both boats saw J pod. They were near Eagles Cove on the west side of San Juan Island. When we first came upon them, they appeared to have been sleeping. They were slowing moving south, logging together, staying near the surface. The breathing was synchronized. The orca pod kept slowly coming south. We left them around the south beach area. Today the weather gods were with us. It was about 70 degrees, clear, blue and perfect boating weather. We saw common murres, surf scooters, pelagic cormorants, rhinoceros auklets, pigeon guillemots, harbor seals and the beautiful shoreline of San Juan Island. We had guests on board from the Czech republic, England, Idaho and other US states and a local family from Marysville. Hope they email us photos from the trip. At one point when we were stopped, three orca came swimming by close enough to get very good looks and pics. over and out, naturalist Colleen Johansen. |
